National Library Week

Promotion for National Library Week 2025 showing four illustrated boxes of different people using the library (reading, computers, sewing, drawing)

April 6 to 12 is National Library Week in the United States, and it’s super important to celebrate our libraries, librarians, and library workers. I love the library. You’ll see in many of the photos posted on the blog that most of the books I read are from the library. When I move some place new, the first thing on my list is to get a local library card. When I go on vacation, I check out the libraries there.

My local library has a documentary festival planned for this week. In addition to movie screenings, our fantastic library and its staff have so much to offer: books, audiobooks, e-books, a maker space, tools, cake pans, story hours, knitting groups, and so much more.

The ALA page describes the special themes planned for some of the days this week:

Monday is the Right to Read Day, a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read. Tuesday is National Library Workers Day. Wednesday is National Library Outreach Day (formerly National Bookmobile Day), a day to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are. And Thursday is Take Action for Libraries Day, which sounds like a great day to reach out to your local representatives and express how much the library means to you.

Check out the ALA website and look into what your local library is offering during this celebratory week and always. Libraries are for everyone and offer so much!
